"Why are you still here? Why do you care so much?" I ask her.

It's a painful question. I shouldn't have to ask someone why they care about me, but I do.

"Because I want to help you. I really do care about you, Daniel." She responds.

I look around us. I'm still seated on top of the hotel, my legs dangling off the edge. She's standing a few feet behind me, her arms crossed, wearing a very worried look on her face. I don't even know this girl's name, and she's saying she cares about me.

"What's...What's your name?" I ask her carefully.

"Sarah."

"Well, Sarah, why do you care? You barely know me."

"Because. Every life matters, and..." She stops. She looks down, then back up for a moment. "I care. Even if no one else does, I care. Just give it some time. Please. It'll get better."

No it won't. I listen anyway, despite knowing she's lying.

"Can you...Just come down with me? Give it a few days, I can help." She promises.

She sounds genuine. No one else ever did.

I decide to give her a chance. I slowly nod, standing up and turning to her.

"Okay." I mutter. "I'll give it a chance."

I look down over the edge one last time. Twenty stories up. I could jump right now.

No. I won't. I'll give it a while...Only for this girl. Only this once.
